
The secret to self love isn’t a hard or difficult one but you do have to look for it! Loving others can be so much easier than loving ourselves at times and we don’t even think about turning our affections inward. The reason we find it difficult to accomplish self love is that in many cases, we were never taught that it was important.
Think of all you have done in your life first
You probably graduated from high school, got a job, maybe had children, gotten married, bought a house, paid your own bills, etc. These are all accomplishments in life that no one gives you credit for. Even you sometimes tend to forget all that you have been through and done for yourself. Being a parent is a big deal! So is getting your first car, job, apartment, or house. People don’t take time to pat themselves on the back for these things in life because we are always looking towards the next thing.
Take the time to celebrate everything you accomplish and love yourself for doing it. This act of self love keeps you excited about each milestone that you achieve along your self love journey. Even the small wins are wins, and you should stop and celebrate each thing.
What makes you happy?
Self love also is a culmination of things that make you happy. If jamming in your car with the radio blaring makes you happy, do more of that! How about hobbies that you enjoy? Gardening, painting, crafting, completing home improvement projects, etc. Whatever makes you happy aides in your self love journey because it helps you feel good about yourself.
Maybe traveling or spending the weekend with your sister and your nieces and nephews gives you joy. When you can recognize the things in life that actually make you smile, then you are on your way to loving and appreciating yourself. Finding things that make us joyful is food for your soul. You open yourself up to being in a good mood and the feeling of pure happiness should be embraced and enjoyed as often as possible.
Find the things you love about yourself
Are you a great friend? A good listener? Have pretty eyes, or a smile that lights up the room? The things that you love about yourself are often overlooked when you think about yourself. Start thinking about what you really appreciate and self love becomes easier.
Looking at the things we love about ourselves is not easy and we can always find fault rather than find good things. Try changing what is in your head and in your heart and really give attention to the things you love about yourself changes your perspective and gives you the chance to change negative thinking into positive thinking.
Identify your Strengths
Being organized and being on time are strengths. Utilizing your resources when you need to accomplish a task or a project is a strength. Being able to lead others is a strength. Helping your children to have a positive self image is a strength. Once you look at your personality and identify your strengths this can help you on your path to self love.
Negative thinking can be the self sabotaging enemy. When you are thinking of your strengths, everything counts. So tell that little nagging voice in your head to be quiet so you can focus on your good. Self love comes from within what you believe about yourself.
Positive Self Talk
When you love someone, you tell them, and you probably tell them quite often. Why do we not do that for ourselves? To really love yourself you have to get still and listen in to what you tell yourself. Think about a romantic partner that you love. You pour your affections onto them without giving it a second thought, but you don’t do this for yourself.
Change the narrative and start treating yourself like someone you love, because you do love yourself. You’ve just never communicated it to yourself. Saying loving kind words to yourself will fill your head and heart with confidence and joy. Try it and watch what happens when you start to love hearing sweet and nice things about yourself.
